5722XE1 V5R3M0 IBM iSeries Access for Windows NOTE: This is for advanced users only to improve the distribution of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2 to multiple end-users. The preferred method is to apply PTF V5R3M0 5722XE1 SI16716 to your iSeries and install the service pack (or initial install, upgrade, reinstall) from QIBM\ProdData\Access\Windows\Install\Image ** or ** run V5R3JRE142.exe from the parent FTP directory above the directory containing this readme. Either of the above methods will result in the same set of fixes as those contained in the jre1.cab and jre1.hdr files in this directory. In this directory are the following fixes for V5R3M0 iSeries Access for Windows pertaining to the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) used by iSeries Navigator. These fixes are a new Java Runtime Environment (JRE) level 1.4.2 . JRE 1.4.1 shipped with the original V5R3M0 iSeries Access for Windows media. APAR SE17968: CA400EXP-OPNAV ISERIES NAVIGATOR DOESN'T COME UP IF THE USER When we create a user defined character(GAIJI) on Windows client, iSeries Navigator doesn't come up. The window screen appears a moment, but it ends immediately. This problem occurs on Windows XP and doesn't occur on Windows 2000. This problem disappears if we delete GAIJI file named EUDC.EUF and EUDC.TTE from C:\Windows\Fonts directory. A problem was found in the version of JRE that is shipped with iSeries Navigator. An update of the JRE is required to solve this problem. CIRCUMVENTION: Remove private characters to continue using iSeries Navigator without this fix. APAR SE18028: CA400EXP-OPNAV-WAIT ISERIES NAVIGATOR HANGS WHEN CLICKING UN Setting up a connection to a new Model 520 running V5R3M0 OS. Opening iSeries Navigator and going to Basic Operations and Printer Output, never displays the screen, instead he gets a message that Navigator is no longer responding. A problem was found with Microsoft Extended TCP/IP Version 6 (IPV6) in the version of JRE that is shipped with iSeries Navigator. An update of the JRE is required to solve this problem. CIRCUMVENTION: Remove MS Extended TCP V6 (C:> ipv6 uninstall at a PC client command line). This fix ONLY applies to V5R3M0 service pack SI17742 or newer. This package will SI17742 or any newer service pack. Please do not attempt to apply this fix to any other release of iSeries Access for Windows, or any older service pack level. If you need to contact Service about problems with this new JRE level, you should mention that you have installed the JRE 1.4.2 fix package, which can be determined by running java.exe -version (from the default folder of C:\Program Files\IBM\Client Access\JRE\bin ) The version of java.exe is 142.2004.6.26 with a a modification date of February 19, 2005. Installation Instructions: -------------------------- jre1.cab, jre1.hdr, and servjre.lvl are designed to be merged into an existing installation image that has service pack SI17411 / SI17742 or higher. This is for advanced users only to improve distribution to multiple end-users. 1. In your installation image containing V5R3 merged with SI17411 / SI17742 or higher, rename jre1.cab to jre1bak.cab and jre1.hdr to jre1bak.hdr and servjre.lvl to servjre.bak 2. Copy jre1.cab, jre1.hdr, and servjre.lvl from this FTP directory into the installation image 3. End-users can then initial install, upgrade, reinstall, or install a service pack, and will get the JRE 1.4.2 fixes. Note: for best results with reinstalls, apply PTF 5722XE1 SI17496 to your installation image before attempting the reinstall.
