About this release

This document contains prerequisite information for IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool for WebSphere Development Studio - with HATS Technology, Version 6.0.1. In addition, it includes any limitations of the product and information not included in the documentation.

This product includes the following component:

  1. Runtime license jar file for deploying WebFaced applications with non-WebFaced 5250 applications.

The package also includes the following products:

  1. HATS 6.0.4
  2. WebSphere Application Server Express (for non tier-based license entitlement)

System requirements

The system requirements are the same as for WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries, Version 6.0.1 or WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Advanced Edition, Version 6.0.1.

Refer to the Installation Guide for the system requirements for installing WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries, Version 6.0. or WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Advanced Edition, Version 6.0.

To enable this product, you must have V5R4 (or later) level of the host operating system and valid license(s) purchased with the WebFacing Deployment Tool.

Installation

Ensure you have access to the WebFacing Deployment Tool either on the CD or through your network.

To install the WebFacing Deployment Tool, do the following:

Provides all the tools you need to quickly and easily extend you 5250 applications to Business Partners, customers, and employees. 

Makes your 5250 applications available as HTML through the most popular Web browsers, or through your portal, while converting the host screens to a Web look and feel.

Transforms screens of a server application into a Web application that can be deployed to a Web server.

WebSphere Application Server Express V6.0 (for non-tier based license entitlement)

WebSphere Application Server - Express Version 6 is a tightly integrated development tool and application server that provides an easily affordable entry point to e-business for companies creating dynamic Web sites.

Using the product

Once installed, this product enables your WebFacing applications to work seamlessly in the Web browser with non-WebFaced 5250 applications. So, if one of your WebFacing applications calls a non-WebFaced 5250 application, you will see the web version of that application appear in the Web browser. Its screens are created on the fly using dynamic data stream transformation technology.

Limit of 2 user connections

Customers who take advantage of the new WebFacing Tool extensions in WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries, Version 6.0.1 or WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Advanced Edition, Version 6.0.1 will find that deployment for the new functions is limited to two user connections for testing purpose only. To enable the new functions for deployment to production, customers must purchase IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool for WebSphere Development Studio - with HATS Technology, Version 6.0.1.

Web-enabled applications created using the HATS Toolkit are limited to two user connections for testing purpose only. IBM WebFacing Deployment Tool for WebSphere Development Studio - with HATS Technology, Version 6.0.1 is required for deployment to production of HATS applications.

Determine the business impact of your problem

When you report a problem to IBM, you are asked to supply a severity level. Therefore, you need to understand and assess the business impact of the problem that you are reporting. Use the following criteria:

Severity 1 The problem has a critical business impact: You are unable to use the program, resulting in a critical impact on operations. This condition requires an immediate solution.
Severity 2 This problem has a significant business impact: The program is usable, but it is severely limited.
Severity 3 This problem has some business impact: The program is usable, but less significant features (not critical to operations) are unavailable.
Severity 4 The problem has minimal business impact: The problem causes little impact on operations, or a reasonable circumvention to the problem was implemented.

Submit your problem

You can submit your problem to IBM Software Support in one of two ways:

If the problem you submit is for a software defect or for missing or inaccurate documentation, IBM Software Support creates an Authorized Program Analysis Report (APAR). The APAR describes the problem in detail. Whenever possible, IBM Software Support provides a workaround that you can implement until the APAR is resolved and a fix is delivered. IBM publishes resolved APARs on the Software Support Web site daily, so that other users who experience the same problem can benefit from the same resolution.
