Since WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Advanced Edition is built on IBM Rational Application Developer V6.0, the default is to install the product code in a folder called IBM\ Rational in your workstation Program Files directory. If you accepted the installation defaults, you can expand the local directory:
\Program Files\IBM\Rational\SDP\6.0
The Start menu contains a shortcut for the product in the IBM Rational folder. When you expand this folder, you can see the IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Advanced Edition V6.0 subfolder.. This contains the Installation Guide, Migration Guide, Readme file and the product shortcut.
To start, click Start->Programs->IBM Rational->IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries V6.0 -> WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries.
Refer to the Migration Guide for information on migrating from WebSphere Development Studio Client Version 5.1 or 5.1.2. You can also find additional information in the form of technotes on the IBM Support Web site http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/wdt400/support.
In case you encounter performance problems, refer to the performance hints and tips for Rational Developer product components. Also visit the support page of this product for specific tips on the iSeries related tools.
Updates, limitations, and known problems about WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Advanced Edition, Version 6.0, are documented in the form of technotes on the IBM Support Web site http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/wdt400/support.
As limitations and problems are discovered and resolved, the IBM Software Support team updates the knowledge base. By searching the knowledge base, you can quickly find workarounds or solutions to problems that you experience. The Technotes link in the Self Help section of the WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Web site launches a customized query of the live Support knowledge base. To narrow your search, specify V6 as the search term. To create your own query, go to the Advanced search page on the IBM Software Support Web site.
Refer to the technotes for the WebFacing Tool for updates, limitations, and known problems.
Starting with Version 5.1.2, the index.html file has been replaced with index.jsp. Once placed in your project, the index.jsp is not updated by the WebFacing Tool. The changes to the html to add or remove program launch entries are done to a separate file, invocations.jsp, that is included by index.jsp. When a program invocation is added or removed, the invocations.jsp file is regenerated but index.jsp is not changed. If you wish to customize the appearance of your index.jsp file and not have it change when CL commands are added or removed, you can delete the inclusion of the invocations.jsp and copy the parts of invocations.jsp that you need into the index.jsp. Then you can customize index.jsp to suit your needs.
The default way to invoke a CL program in Version 5.1.2 is to use a form. If you have parameters, the form submission correctly handles the submission of them as well. To invoke your converted application from outside of the Web application, you can get the proper format of the form using the browser's View source option when the index.jsp page is displayed.
With imported projects that had a customized index.html page, we recommend that you do the customizations to the index.jsp page. The index.html page should still work with the imported project but it is not updated by WebFacing with any changes to CL commands. To use your old index.html page, either point your browser to it directly (http://your-server/your-app/index.html) or update the welcome file list in the Web application's web.xml file.
You can find additional information on known problems and workarounds in the Rational Web Application Developer Readme file, at http://www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/rad/60/html/readme.html,

IBM Software Support provides assistance with product defects.
Before you submit your problem to IBM Software Support, ensure that your company has an active IBM software maintenance contract, and that you are authorized to submit problems to IBM. The type of software maintenance contract that you need depends on the type of product you have:
If you are not sure what type of software maintenance contract you need, call 1-800-IBMSERV (1-800-426-7378) in the United States. From other countries, go to the "Contacts" page of the IBM Software Support Handbook at http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/guides/contacts.html, and click the name of your geographic region for phone numbers of people who provide support for your location.
To contact IBM Software Support, follow these steps:
When you report a problem to IBM, you are asked to supply a severity
level. Therefore, you need to understand and assess the business impact
of the problem that you are reporting. Use the following
criteria:
Severity 1 | The problem has a critical business impact: You are unable to use the program, resulting in a critical impact on operations. This condition requires an immediate solution. |
Severity 2 | This problem has a significant business impact: The program is usable, but it is severely limited. |
Severity 3 | This problem has some business impact: The program is usable, but less significant features (not critical to operations) are unavailable. |
Severity 4 | The problem has minimal business impact: The problem causes little impact on operations, or a reasonable circumvention to the problem was implemented. |
When describing a problem to IBM, be as specific as possible. Include all relevant background information so that IBM Software Support specialists can help you solve the problem efficiently. To save time, know the answers to these questions:
You can submit your problem to IBM Software Support in one of two ways:
If the problem you submit is for a software defect or for missing or inaccurate documentation, IBM Software Support creates an Authorized Program Analysis Report (APAR). The APAR describes the problem in detail. Whenever possible, IBM Software Support provides a workaround that you can implement until the APAR is resolved and a fix is delivered. IBM publishes resolved APARs on the Software Support Web site daily, so that other users who experience the same problem can benefit from the same resolution.
