This installation guide applies to IBM(R) CoOperative Development
Environment (CODE) and VisualAge(R) RPG, Version 6.0. This
version is designed to be installed only on a PC workstation, and is available
only on CD.
Installing CODE and VisualAge RPG Version 6.0 as a standalone component
In Version 6.0, CODE and VisualAge RPG are contained on a separate CD-ROM disk. These classic tools are installed as a standalone component, independent from the installation of WebSphere(R) Development Studio Client for iSeries(TM), Version 6.0. If any previous release of WebSphere Development Tools/400 (V4R5M1, V5R1M0) or WebSphere Development Studio Client (V4.0, V5.0, V5.1, V5.1.2.) is detected on the system, an information dialog is displayed asking you to uninstall the previous release before continuing.
You need to log on as an administrator to install these tools.
CODE and VisualAge RPG require the following hardware:
Minimum Recommended Memory 256 MB 512 MB Permanent disk space 700 MB 700 MB Temporary disk space needed during product installation 500 MB 500 MB
Because the classic tools need extra temporary space during installation, you can change the default drive for temporary space to another drive.
To move your temporary space:
CODE and VisualAge RPG, Version 6.0, can be installed on Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 and Windows XP. Installation on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT(R), or Windows Me is not supported.
The classic tools require the following software:
Operating system | Requirements |
Windows 2000 |
|
Windows XP |
|
Development Time | Run Time |

|
If you have a previous version of the classic tools and want to upgrade to Version 6.0, you should read the technote entitled "Migration of CODE Preferences and Settings." When you install Version 6.0, the installation will automatically uninstall the previous version. This in turn will delete your CODE settings which have been saved in the registry. To prevent this, before you install Version 6.0 (or manually uninstall the previous version), you can run the batch file provided in the technote, which will back up your settings by copying the existing registry keys into a .reg file. Then you can uninstall the tools. After you reinstall, you restore the old settings by copying the old registry keys into the registry.
If you want to migrate to a different machine, you can use this same batch file to back up your settings and transfer them to the second machine.
You can find full instructions in the technote.
