iSeries retail store scenario application

To begin using Development Studio Client for iSeries Version 5.1, or Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries, Version 5.1, you can download the following scenario packages with accompanying documentation. After downloading the packages, you can both run the complete application, and work with the shipped code to build a duplicate of the application.

The scenario illustrates the situation of two companies, a a clothing retail store and wholesale supplier , who do business together and both use their iSeries server for business logic and data. In the past, the businesses have communicated with each other through e-mail, telephone, and fax to check inventory, submit orders, and track orders to fulfillment. They now hope to use the Web to carry out regular business transactions.

This scenario takes you through various parts of the product with an emphasis on iSeries-specific components such as the IBM WebFacing Tool, Web services, iSeries Web development tools (including the Web Interaction wizard and Program Call wizard), iSeries Java development tools, and the IBM Toolbox for Java. The scenario is designed for developers wanting to use an iSeries server for Web development, Java development, and the management and transformation of RPG code into Web applications. The application itself consists of two .savf files that you restore to your iSeries host and five .zip files that you use locally in the Development Studio Client workbench. They form a series of Web pages with URLs for various points in the process.

Note: If you have applied the following PTFs: SI09791 for the V5R1 iSeries server, or SI09790 for the V5R2 iSeries server, then you should rebind the TNLSTITM object to QDTSSFL in the QSYS library. Also, check to see if you have a copy of QDTSSFL in another library, QGPL for example, then you should remove it.

To go through the scenario:

  1. Make a temporary directory on your system, into which you will download all of the necessary files.
  2. Download the following .savf files to the temporary directory:
  3. Download the following 5 .zip files to the same temporary directory:
  4. Download the following documentation (in PDF format) to the same temporary directory: For documentation in languages other than English:

  5. Navigate to your temporary directory, and open scenario.pdf. The documentation explains how to work with the rest of the source, and how to go through the scenario.
