About the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center

The RS/6000 Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center is included when you order an RS/6000 Internet POWERsolution.

The RS/6000 Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center is a software package that provides a friendly introduction to your new RS/6000 and the Internet POWERsolutions. It is designed to provide information about your new RS/6000 system and software, to facilitate quick setup and configuration, to demonstrate system capabilities and to provide links to other valuable resources for your Internet POWERsolution such as service and support.

The RS/6000 Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center requires AIX Ultimedia Services/6000 (UMS) 2.1.5.0. You can run the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center on AIX 4 systems without UMS but the multimedia demos will not be enabled.


Installing the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center

The Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center can be installed just like any AIX install image. Follow the steps below to install it.

  1. Create a temporary directory on your machine that has at least 47 Mbytes of space.

  2. Download the Inet_welcome.bin install image to that directory.

  3. Read the license agreement..

  4. Issue the following command to install the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center
    installp -aXdInet_welcome.bin Inet_welcome

    in the directory where the install image resides.

The Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center requires about 55 Mbytes of disk space and will be installed in the /inet_welcome directory.


Running the installed Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center

Follow the steps below to run the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center AFTER you have installed it on your system.

  1. Type the following commands at the command prompt.

    cd /inet_welcome

    ./inet_welcome.start

    These commands will launch the Netscape Navigator in an environment best suited for the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center.

  2. Browse through the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center at your convenience.

  3. When you are ready to leave the Internet POWERsolutions Welcome Center, you will see the following choices on the Exit Page.

    • Option 1: Remove Welcome Center from the startup sequence. The Welcome Center will be removed from the startup sequence, but will be accessable from the AIX desktop environment.

    • Option 2: The Welcome Center will be removed completely from your system. Note: You need root authority to delete any AIX file system.
