APAR DESCRIPTION: CSAIX FAILS TO START

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
CS/AIX V6.3 fails to start after updating AIX to 5.3-TL5 or
later. With the fileset bos.mp at 5.3.0.50 or later and AIX
running with a 32-bit kernel, the AnyNet kernel extension of
CS/AIX V6.3 fails to load properly.

PROBLEM SUMMARY:
  USERS AFFECTED: 
  All users of CS/AIX 6.3 on a 32-bit AIX 5.3
  kernel at AIX 5.3 TL5 and later.

  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  CS/AIX V6.3 fails to start after   
  updating AIX to 5.3-TL5 or later.  
  With the fileset bos.mp at 5.3.0.50
  or later and AIX running with a    
  32-bit kernel, the AnyNet kernel   
  extension of CS/AIX V6.3 fails to
  load properly.

  PROBLEM SUMMARY:
  The "sna start" command returns the following:
                                               
  SNA software is initializing...               
  SNA software failed to initialize, reason:    
  Failed to start TP Server Daemon              
  - Failed to allocate required memory                         
  Operating System error:                                      
  - Bad file number                                            
                                                              
  During boot, you might see the following on the console or by
  manually executing /etc/rc.sna:                              
                                                              
  strload: cannot load /usr/lib/sna/drivers/snahprip:          
  Cannot run a file that does not have a valid format.         
  Device driver/kernel extension load failed.                  
  errno (8) = ENOEXEC, Exec format error     
  Device driver/kernel extension load failed.
  errno (8) = ENOEXEC, Exec format error     
  SNA software is initializing...            
  SNA software failed to initialize, reason: 
  Failed to start TP Server Daemon           
  - Failed to allocate required memory       
  Operating System error:                    
  - Bad file number                          
  
  AIX commands like 'trace' and mounting a CD or DVD may also   
  fail a message such as:                                       
  LOADEXT: Exec format error                                    

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:                                           
This problem does not apply to CS/AIX V6.1 or when running the
64-bit AIX kernel.                                            

For those who are not using the AnyNet APPC over IP function  
and require the 32-bit kernel, a workaround is to edit the    
file /etc/pse.sna.conf and comment out the following line by  
inserting a "#" at the beginning of the line:                 

      d /usr/lib/sna/drivers/snasxm                           

Reboot the system once you have commented out the line.       

For those who are using the AnyNet APPC over IP function, the 
snasxm module has been updated to load properly.

PREREQUISITES: 
This package requires fileset sna.rte at the 6.3.0.0 or 6.3.0.1 level.
To determine if the prequisite level is installed, use the command:

  lslpp -L "sna.rte"

If the output indicates a level other that 6.3.0.0 or 6.3.0.1, you will
need to update to the required level or obtain the version of this fix 
appropriate to the installed level. Product updates can be obtained
from 
  http://www.ibm.com/software/network/commserver/aix/support

INSTALLATION
This package uses the AIX emgr tool for managing interim fixes. For more 
information, see AIX documentation and man pages for the emgr command.

- Download the fix package in binary format.
- Login as root.
- Install prerequisite level updates as necessary.
- Install the interim fix using the command:

    emgr -e IZ04444.630.epkg.Z

A system reboot is required for the fix to take effect.
