Abstract

This article explains which concepts are used to edit or simulate a mechanism.


Kinematics Concepts

Kinematics or Kinematic analysis concerns the motion of a set of related components defined by the relative or absolute motion of some of these components.

Dynamics or Dynamic analysis concerns the motion of a set of related components that is due to the action of applied forces. The following concepts will be introduced:

Product

A Product is a rigid body or mechanism links.
A door and its frame are examples of products.

Joint

A Joint is a connection between products which limit their relative motion. The class of motion which can be done, defines the Type of the joint : revolute, prismatic, cylindrical, spherical, planar, screw, gear are some types of joint.
A hinge is an example of revolute type joint : that means the frame or the door can have a rotational motion against each other.

Command

The motion of a mechanism is defined by the relative position of products : this is made thru Commands which are user-friendly ways to define this relative position.
A door can be closed or opened at 90 degrees.

Mechanism

A Mechanism is a collection of products and joints whose one product is attached to the ground. This product is defined as the Fix.
The frame is the fix in the example of door mechanism.

Dress-up

A Dress-up is a set of components (a component is a node in the product tree) attached to a link.

This object is available in interactive CATIA, but not yet exposed in CAA V5.
