IBM SECURITY ADVISORY First Issued: Wed Dec 4 15:39:12 CST 2024 The most recent version of this document is available here: https://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/powersc/security/curl_advisory16.asc Security Bulletin: PowerSC is vulnerable to information disclosure, denial of service, and security restrictions bypass due to Curl =============================================================================== SUMMARY: Vulnerabilities in Curl could allow a local attacker to obtain sensitive information (CVE-2024-7264) or a remote attacker to cause a denial of service (CVE-2024-6197, CVE-2024-37371) or bypass security restrictions (CVE-2024-37370). PowerSC uses Curl as part of PowerSC Trusted Network Connect (TNC). =============================================================================== VULNERABILITY DETAILS: CVEID: CVE-2024-7264 https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2024-7264 DESCRIPTION: cURL libcurl could allow a local attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an out-of-bounds read flaw in the the GTime2str() function. By sending a specially crafted request, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to obtain sensitive information or cause the application to crash. CVSS Base score: 3.6 CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:L) CVEID: CVE-2024-6197 https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2024-6197 DESCRIPTION: cURL libcurl is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by a memory allocation flaw in the utf8asn1str() function in the ASN1 parser. By using a specially crafted TLS certificate, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial of service condition. CVSS Base score: 6.5 CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) CVEID: CVE-2024-37371 https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2024-37371 DESCRIPTION: MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by an invalid memory reads during GSS message token handling. By sending specially crafted message tokens, a remote authenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial of service condition. CVSS Base score: 6.5 CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) CVEID: CVE-2024-37370 https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2024-37370 DESCRIPTION: MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) could allow a remote attacker to bypass security restrictions, caused by improper access control. By sending a specially crafted request to modify the plaintext Extra Count field of a confidential GSS krb5 wrap token, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause the unwrapped token to appear truncated to the application. CVSS Base score: 7.4 CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H) AFFECTED PRODUCTS AND VERSIONS: PowerSC 1.3, 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 The vulnerabilities in the following filesets are being addressed: key_fileset = powerscStd.tnc_pm key_fileset = curl-8.9.1-1.aix7.1.ppc.rpm Fileset Lower Level Upper Level KEY --------------------------------------------------------------------- powerscStd.tnc_pm 1.3.0.4 2.2.0.3 key_w_fs curl-8.9.1-1.aix7.1.ppc.rpm 7.19.4 8.7.1 key_w_fs krb5-libs-1.21.3-1.aix7.1.ppc.rpm 1.18.0.0 1.21.2.1 key_w_fs Note: To find out whether the affected PowerSC filesets are installed on your systems, refer to the lslpp command found in AIX user's guide.
